Aluminium Flat Bar and Strip in Natural, Silver, Black and Gold

Aluminium flat bar, also called aluminium strip, flat strip or flat plate, is a thin, flat length of aluminium used for edging, trim, cover strips and general fabrication. We stock it in two types: natural aluminium in raw mill finish, ready for you to cut, drill and finish yourself, and anodised aluminium in silver, black and brushed gold, which is finished and ready to fit on show.

How to cut and fit aluminium strip

Measure the edge and mark the length on the strip. Cut with a fine-tooth hacksaw and lightly file the cut end smooth, mitring at 45° where two strips meet at a corner. On a clean, dry and flat surface, fix the strip with a suitable adhesive, or drill and secure it with screws or rivets. On anodised strips, handle the visible face with care during fitting to keep the finish clean.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mill finish and anodised aluminium?
Mill finish is plain, untreated aluminium straight from production, so light marks are normal and it is best for parts you will finish yourself. Anodised aluminium has a coloured, finished surface that is ready to fit on show.

Is aluminium flat bar the same as aluminium strip?
Yes. Flat bar, flat strip and flat plate are different names for the same thin, flat profile. Thinner sizes are often called strip and wider, thicker ones flat bar.

What thickness should I choose?
The 2mm strips suit edging, trim and inlay work where you want a slim line. The 3mm bars, in 30mm and wider, give a stiffer strip for cover strips and light fabrication.

Can I cut aluminium flat bar at home?
Yes. A fine-tooth hacksaw is enough for all our sizes. File the cut end smooth afterwards.

Do you sell matching corner trims?
Yes. Our aluminium corner profiles come in matching black and brushed gold, so you can finish edges and corners in the same colour.
